The school is guided by a set of values that include inclusion, creativity and accountability. The school puts a child and their family at the centre of all learning processes.

Leadership & Organization

St Teresa Education Centre was founded by Dr. Viola Nilah Nyakato and Dr. Gad Ruzaaza in 2021. The motivation to establish a not-for-profit preschool and primary education centre was informed by a population structure of an up-coming city of Mbarara and the changing family structure which demands that men and women equally engage in competitive and gainful employment. Such development trends require that parents find a learning environment for the little ones.

The school is named after Dr. Viola Nilah Nyakato’s grandmother (Maria Teresa) a refugee woman who did not have formal education but ensured that her children and grandchildren access and value education. The Centre’s guardian saint is St. Teresa of Calcutta, the saint for the unborn, sick, the abandoned and the destitute and a patron saint of World Youth Day.
